Harmful chemicalsin the majority of skin care products

The chemicals in our environment, products and food are alien to our bodies. They are not familiar to our metabolisms – hence they cause problems. Within the body every cell in the body is bathed in interstitial fluid, and this fluid provides each cell of the body with nutrients and oxygen. Cellular waste (toxins) are removed from every cell via this fluid. From here the waste is carried to the lymphatic system to be eliminated by urine, sweat, stools, and breathe. A build up of toxins will interfere with the smooth running of this operation, hampering cellular metabolism, transmission of information problems, hormone irregularities all resulting in accelerated deterioration and damage.
I always advice people to read the labels of all the foods and drinks they consume, however is just as important to read the labels on skin care products and products you inhale (rooms sprays). Everything you put on your skin much of it will end up being absorbed through the skin and into the blood stream.
What do you need to look out for?
Aluminium found in most deodorants. Aluminium is a known neurotoxin that can also damage the heart and lungs, cause fertility problems and has been linked to Alzheimer’s. We can if we get a call for them stock aluminium-free spray deodorants, made in the US
Coal tars found in soaps etc. Common synthetic color pigments. They can contain heavy metals, can pollute and deplete oxygen; they can encourage a skin to become sensitive, and can be carcinogenic.
Formaldehyde – found generally in nail polish, soap, shampoos and more. It’s also the chemical they use to preserve dead bodies and the chemical that makes up part of a certain chemical sweetener!
Dmdm hydantoin and urea imidazolidinyl – two of many that release formaldehyde into the body triggering skin problems, joints, dizziness, and lowering of the immunity.
Isopropyl alcohol SD-40 – is adrying and irritating solventwhich disrupts the skins mantle (protective barrier), making the skin more susceptible to other chemicals. Plus it encourages the formation of pigmentation and age spots!
Parabens – are very common synthetic preservatives that extend the shelf life of products, found in most products. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported that the chemical preservatives called parabens—methyl, propyl, butyl and ethyl (alkyl-p-hydroxybenzoates)—displayed estrogenic activity in several tests. This means that these chemicals mimic your body’s own hormones and can have endocrine-disrupting action when they are rubbed into your body or washed down the drain into our rivers and drinking water. These disruptors interfere with our body’s endocrine system – our hypothalamus, ovaries, thyroid and just about every system in our bodies. It has been noted “anything absorbed through the skin may be as high as 10 times the concentration of an oral dose.” Endocrine disruptors are transported into the body, daily, via absorption through the skin and hair follicles when using personal care products.
Phthalates are considered dangerous, found in many leading hair sprays, deodorants, nail polish, perfumes etc. They can damage the liver, kidneys, lungs and reproductive system.
Talc is a mineral, produced by the mining of talc rocks and then processed by crushing, drying and milling. Processing eliminates a number of trace minerals from the talc, but does not separate minute fibers which are very similar to asbestos! Talc is found in a wide variety of consumer products ranging from pesticides to antacids. However, the products most widely used and that pose the most serious health risks are body and baby powders. Talc is closely related to the potent carcinogen asbestos, and has been shown to cause tumors in the ovaries and lungs of cancer victims. Numerous studies have shown a strong link between frequent use of talc in the female genital area and ovarian cancer. Talc particles are able to move through the reproductive system and become embedded in the lining of the ovaries. Talc miners have shown higher rates of lung cancer and other respiratory illnesses. Since the early 1980s, records show that several thousand infants each year have died or become seriously ill following accidental inhalation of baby powder!!Use corn starch or rice starch instead.
Synthetic fragrances (perfumes) – in one product that contains a synthetic fragrance (perfume) there could been as many as 200 different chemical ingredients, that’s why many people are intolerant to them – headaches, dizziness, skin irritation, rashes etc. We have no idea what a cosmetic chemical cocktail is doing to us long term!? Perfumes are found in 98% of products.
Now that we know we absorb toxins through our skin, I think it is important to start thinking about buying products that have far less chemicals in them or for products that are made as natural as possible. This goes for household cleaning products too however, these you can make yourself very cheaply. More information on this on www.shareremedies.com
